Books require an International Standard Book Number (ISBN), a unique identifier reserved specifically for print publications. Standard retail barcodes like EAN-13 and UPC-A are not suitable for books.
How to Obtain an ISBN

Generating an ISBN Barcode
Once you have your ISBN, it needs to be converted into an EAN-13 barcode image to be printed on your book’s cover. Properly formatted ISBN barcodes include human-readable text both above and below the barcode.
